Relaxing vacation by the water
Your beautiful escape
In search of lost calm
In our contemporary world, noise and commotion seem never to subside, constantly absorbing more and more of our attention. Not to mention the omnipresence of our cell phones and other electronic devices that constantly capture our attention. In this hyper-connected world, our desire for tranquility becomes a true necessity.
Almost vital.
In our daily lives, however, we often don't have enough time to escape this constant hustle and bustle. It's the rhythm of our lives that dictates it and most often imposes it upon us.
However, why not take advantage of a weekend, a few days… or even a week to disconnect from daily life ? To give yourself a moment to find yourself in a peaceful place, quietly watching the water of a river or stream ? To let yourself be carried away by the murmur of a small waterfall? Or simply to walk in the woods to recharge?
What's wonderful about that?
The thing is, you don't need to go far for that. You just need to change your routine.
To go somewhere else. But not necessarily to go far away.
Dinant, with the soothing banks of its waterways (the Meuse and the Lesse, in particular), offers an ideal refuge for those seeking to escape the frenzy of modern life. Not to mention the wooded landscapes of the Meuse valleys, with their breathtaking panoramas and hidden trails.
In the rest of this article, we explain why Dinant and its surrounding area can be the ideal place to relax and disconnect. Why choose Gîtes Kangourou Dinant for your next rejuvenating getaway?.
And what advantages and benefits will this choice bring you?.
Why choose Dinant for a relaxing holiday by the water?
Dinant is world-renowned and popular as a day-trip destination. Most visitors, in fact, are just passing through.
However, in the upper Meuse region and at the gateway to the Belgian Ardennes, Dinant and its surrounding area are a prime location for a relaxing and refreshing stay:
- An incomparable natural setting: between the tranquil waters of the Meuse and the majestic reliefs of the Ardennes, Dinant is a permanent invitation to escape from everyday life.
- A rich array of outdoor activities: whether you are a fan of contemplative walks or eager to practice sporting activities, Dinant can meet your desires.
- A sparsely populated region: there are still many relatively unfrequented places in the area. Not too many cars or trucks passing through. The advantage of small roads.
- The Meuse and the Lesse meet at Dinant. While part of the Lesse sees a large influx of kayakers in the summer, there are still many trails where the noise is limited to the murmur of flowing water.
Thus, the geographical setting of Dinant offers many places of tranquility, far from the hustle and bustle of big cities and our busy lives.
But the region has other advantages:
- A wide range of cultural activities of all kinds, to discover alone, as a couple or as a family: whether in Dinant (Maison de la Pataphonie, Citadelle, …) or elsewhere (Château de Vêves, ruins of Crèvecoeur, Montaigle and Poilvache), there is no shortage of activities.
- Peaceful villages and unusual places that lend themselves particularly well to strolling: Anseremme, Falaën or Crupet, for example.
- Museums that are accessible when the weather is not conducive to outdoor activities, such as the Maison du Patrimoine Médiéval Mosan in Bouvignes or the Maison de Monsieur Sax in Dinant.
In short, whether the weather is gray or the sky is blue, there's always something to do in Dinantwithout having to travel far. Relaxation is guaranteed, whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or on a family vacation.

Are you familiar with Shinrin-Yoku?
The Japanese concept of “Shinrin-Yoku” refers to the practice of walking in the forest, for the mental and physical benefits derived from this immersion. This term is often literally translated into English as “forest bathing.” It is also known as forest therapy.
Shinrin-Yoku is attributed with the following benefits:
- stress reduction
- mood improvement
- strengthening the immune system
- energy increase.
If you are interested in this topic, here is an article from TV5Monde that discusses thepractice and benefits of Shinrin-Yoku.
As for this Canadian study, it demonstrates that the sounds of nature (the sound of water, the songs of birds…) have a beneficial effect on our physical and mental health.
With its many wooded areas, waterways and nature reserves, Dinant offers you many opportunities for immersion in nature.
YourCottages Dinant
Our two cottages enjoy a privileged location in Neffe, on the banks of the Meuse and opposite the Rocher Bayard. Hiking trails are also nearby.
The Neffe district is residential and generally quite quiet. Not very touristy, really, except for that imposing rocky spur… located on the other side of the river. Otherwise, you'll mostly encounter local residents. Including your hosts, since we live two houses away.
With us, you won't feel like tourists on a trip.
Our two cottages, located in the same building but independent of each other, are much more than just a place to stay: they are a promise of rest and escape from everyday life.
We renovated them, making sure to make them as comfortable and pleasant as possible. One of the major features of this renovation is the use of bio-based and natural materials for insulation and interior design.
The highlight is theuse of clay as a finishing plaster on the walls of the various rooms. A natural material, clay gives the home a pleasant and warm feel.
It's more than just about atmosphere: it's about your well-being. The healthy and natural environment we offer has a positive impact on your well-being.
In addition to this:
- A breathtaking view of the Meuse River, for sunrises and sunsets of unparalleled beauty. You're practically right on the water's edge!
- A private pleasure garden , which is gradually filling up with flowers and vegetation and where birds are welcome.
- Soundproofing of the window frames facing the street, to reduce the impact of traffic noise, even if it remains limited.
- Carefully chosen beddingto help you get a restful sleep.
- A private terrace, to enjoy the tranquility when the weather permits.
As you can see, Gîtes Kangourou Dinant is the perfect place to spend a pleasant and relaxing holiday by the water.
That's not all.
Recommended activities for total relaxation
We suggest a selection ofoutdoor activities to enrich your stay without ever compromising your peace and quiet:
- Cruises on the Meuse : discover the valley from its calm waters, a unique and soothing perspective. The Meuse and the Lesse rivers also offer other water sports, such as kayaking.
- Relaxing cultural visits : immerse yourself in local history without the crowds, through sites chosen for their serenity.
- A stroll along the Dinant and discovering saxophones on the Charles de Gaulle bridge.
- Enjoy a drink or a meal on the terrace, by the Meuse river or in typical cafes that we can recommend.
- Not forgetting to mention walks or hikes in the neighborhood, or even further afield: there are plenty of options. If forest bathing appeals to you, the woods are not far from the cottages, and trees await you there…
If you're more the type to want to cozy up at home, the Gîtes (holiday cottages) have plenty of options to offer:
- Board games and puzzles are available for you to enjoy relaxing, disconnected moments.
- Simplified catering options, because holidays rhyme with absence of constraints: the use of caterers or a “take away” meal service.
- A television with access to a subscription to watch movies and series at will.
- Books and magazines, if you haven't brought anything to read.
Finally, there's one more activity we can recommend: doing nothing ! It's an activity we increasingly discourage in our hyper-connected modern world. Yet, doing nothing, even at the cost of boredom, opens the door to daydreaming…
What if you tried slow tourism?
Slow tourism is defined as sustainable tourism.
It is characterized by less travel, an encounter with local populations and the choice of gentler activities, such as walking or cycling.
It's also about travelling at a leisurely pace, without going too far either.
It's about prioritizing the discovery and exploration of places that are close by.
